Sahir Lodhi to re-release his flop film Raasta

Sahir Lodhi, known for the morning show on TV One, has now announced the re-release of his film Raasta 2017 on his social media handle. He has hinted the release of official teaser soon.

Raasta was previously released in 2017 and has been one of the biggest disaster movie since then. Film could barely earn 10 Lakh rupees despite heavy marketing and distribution in Pakistan, UAE, UK, and USA cinemas. It still remains the lowest ranked Pakistani movie with 2.2/10 ratings.

Where things went wrong?

Sahir Lodhi earned a good name as a Radio Jacky at Samaa FM (now Mera FM) for his late-night show that was aired from 10 PM to 12 AM. He later shifted his career as a TV host in morning shows and Ramadan special transmissions. He once announced the making of a film Mausam in 2012. Later, the idea got delayed and film Raasta’s shooting began in 2015. Film was expected to release in early 2017 but after some delays it got released on 31st March 2017 and was eventually taken down by cinemas after a couple of days because of poor performance and extremely negative feedbacks.

The film was produced by Sahir Lodhi, directed by Sahir Lodhi, nitrated by Sahir Lodhi, co-written by Sahir Lodhi, and starred Sahir Lodhi as main lead, but we still couldn’t figure out where things actually went wrong?

Film cast included Aijaz Aslam, Shamoon Abbasi, Sana Nawaz, and Sahir of course. Model Mathira showed up in the item number song. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan sang 2 of the movie songs.

Plot

The film revolves around Sameer (Sahir Lodhi) who lives with police inspector Sultan (Aijaz Aslam) and Sultan’s wife (Sana Nawaz). Sameer is unemployed and struggling to find a job while Mr Sultan is switching his places because of transfers.

Sameer could not managed to get any job. He blames nepotism for his failures. He even gets angry over his brother for not providing reference for the job. Things get worst and Sultan kicks him out of his house.

Well, we forget the interesting part. Sameer has fallen in love with Maya (Saima Azhar) who works in an NGO. Both share some romantic scenes on screen with a couple of songs. Because of Sameer’s financially poor status, Maya starts dating Sherry (Naveed Raza), the ultimate villain of the story.

These situations change Sameer’s heart who decides to take revenge by fighting gangsters and the story gets the revenge-like situation.

What this re-release means now?

Sahir Lodhi is probably planning for YouTube release or partnering with some OTT platforms to collect some more pennies. Otherwise, another cinema release is not expected. It would be almost impossible for his to convince the distributors again. So, it’s either just a publicity stunt to get some limelight or another blunder. Hope things get better for him.
