Indian Idol began in 2004 after acquiring rights from Britain’s Simon Fuller who started the show Pop Idol in 2001. Indian version got popularity from its very first season. Later, Indian Idol Junior, Indian Idol Marathi, and Telugu Indian Idol further popularized the show.
Seeing success in India, Geo Network bought Pakistan Idol rights in 2007. The show couldn’t start on the supposed time because of unknown reasons. In 2013, Geo News started shooting for the first season of Pakistan Idol.
The show was aired on Geo in December 2013 to 2014. Judges included Hadiqa Kiani, Ali Azmat and Bushra Ansari. Geo had partnered with Mobilink Jazz for message based voting system.
Despite success in first season, the idea for the second seasons was dropped. After almost 11 years, Pakistan Idol was relaunched. This time Judges panel included Fawad Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Zeb Bangash, and Bilal Maqsood.
